The whole purpose of fin pivot is to demonstrate buoyancy control using nothing but your lungs. You cannot expect new divers to learn skills in mid water. These skills are simple steps towards gaining control and confidence. Your instructor should have said you cannot use your hands, you're right about that, but from my experience, where I work and dive, these are standards. Once again, PPB is another program that, if done correctly improve divers skills by practicing the basics rather than swimming all over the place. Yes, bad buoyancy is one of our biggest concerns as dive instructors, and unfortunately I must admit, to often I see certified divers with now buoyancy skills at all. As I mentioned in earlier posts, I'm working on adding more videos to these tutorials, that I hope will clear some misconceptions. Thank You Chelsea for your wise comment.

Then we learn to FIN PIVOT (THAT'S NEGATIVE BUOYANCY) because touching is touching. Our instructor never tells us not to use our hands because he knows we will see him/her scull and he/she doesn't want to identify any flaws they have. THEN we are told that the PRIZE is NEUTRAL BUOYANCY and the path to that is PPBuoyancy(the same fox who stole the chickens will now guard the coop) don't do as we do______do as we say and just keep the dollars coming. LOTS OF REHITORIC follows:cheap talk heaped upon cheap talk from self appointed experts while most of the community bobs up and down while flailing with their hands and throwing more doallars into toys that never seem to make us better divers. WE NEED VISUALS! We need more buoyancy experts who aren't afraid to show moving pictures of their skills so we can decide if we want to copy them.DON'T TELL ME____SHOW ME!!!
